Hi there! Happy Valentine’s Day! I haven’t been here in awhile, because I haven’t made anything in awhile. In the kitchen, or otherwise. But I signed up to bring the class treat to my daughter’s Valentine’s Day party, so I finally had an excuse to create something! Truth be told, I didn’t expect to blog about these chocolate-covered pretzel rods. They’re not a new idea. But they turned out so pretty, I just had to share them with you!
The beauty of these festive chocolate-covered pretzel rods is they work for any occasion or holiday–just choose your colors!. They’re also super-duper easy to make and the salty-sweet combo can’t be beat.
For these, we used Wilton’s vanilla-flavored candy melts in bright white and bright pink. The trick is to melt a bag of candy melts in 30-second bursts, stirring between each zap in the microwave. When it’s nice and smooth, use a spoon to help coat the ends of each rod. Place them on cookie sheets lined with parchment and immediately sprinkle on the fun. Let them dry before removing them from the parchment.
Two 12-ounce bags of candy melts was enough for more than 50 rods, which means each fourth-grader in my daughter’s class can have two!
Oh, and how am I transporting these to the school without breaking them? I lined a cookie sheet with a Valentine’s Day place mat then piled the rods up for an impressive display of yumminess. When they’re all massed together, these chocolate-covered pretzel rods looked amazing! The colors are super-sweet for the occasion, and most important, my daughter is proud of them.
If you haven’t tried making these before, pin the idea to try for the next birthday party or class treat you need to plan. It’s a keeper of an idea!
