Hey, hey! How are you? If you read this blog, you know I love me some Goodwill shopping. And the best way I’ve found to score some great stuff at Goodwill is to go in search of nothing in particular. I usually don’t have an agenda when I go thrifting, and that’s exactly when I seem to be able to walk out with stuff I’m excited to transform. I guess you’d call that having an open mind. Anyway, I made this owl wall plaque after one such trip.
First, I came across this wood slice art. It was quite retro. Check it out:
Here are all the deets on how I made it into a trendy wood slice chalkboard.
But then I found this little guy, and you know how I feel about owls. Especially owls that cost a dollar.
Initially, I hung the chalkboard up by itself, and nestled the owl among some other art on our gallery wall. But I wasn’t feelin’ it. My new friend was just a little too Three’s Company. So I gave him a coat of white spray paint.
After his makeover, I hung him on the chalkboard wood slice, and voila! Who has two thumbs and loves cheap wall art? This gal! Oh, and if I ever decide I want to write something on the chalkboard again, no problem. My owl isn’t affixed permanently; he just hangs there on a discreet little nail.
Don’t forget, guys. “Have an open mind and you’re sure to find.”

I love your re-do on Mr. Owl. He looks great painted white and sitting in front of your black wood round.
Love it. I have some slabs of wood like that and I need to incorporate them somehow! I may look for an owl.
Thanks, Barbara! 🙂 Have a great evening!
