To say we’ve had some rain lately would be a bit of an understatement. And it’s hasn’t been warm, spring-y type rain, either. It’s cold and very, very wet. Good warm-cuppa-tea weather. Great stay-in-bed-and-read weather. And also, good break-out-the-cute-umbrella weather. Now, we have an attached garage and very rarely use any other door, so I just leave our umbrellas in the garage. This convenience almost makes me sad, though, because it means we don’t need an umbrella stand.
I love an umbrella stand in a cute entryway. There’s something so preppy about them. They say, “I just took a long walk across the moor with my English setter, and now I’m going to have drinks at the club with Mitzy.”
What, umbrella stands don’t say that to you?
Well, maybe you do struggle with dripping gear. April showers can be quite nice, but muddy boots and puddles in the foyer aren’t anyone’s favorite. I rounded up a bunch of the nicest umbrella stands I could find over on About. Here’s a preview:
See a favorite? My About.com article has all the buying deets. But you know what? You can make you own umbrella stand out of variety of different objects. Check it out!
Make an umbrella holder using a tall galvanized flower bucket.
Or upcycle one of those popcorn tins after you’ve snarfed all of the popcorn.
Re-purpose a relic, like this butter churn.
Or, wrap a plain glass vase in sisal.
For all you lucky ducks who need a cute umbrella stand in your entry, don’t forget! You can also use these out of season, too. I give you several ways to use an umbrella stand over on About.
And while we’re on the subject of spring weather, is the rest of your home outfitted to handle the elements? I cover all the spring weather essentials here.
Enjoy the raindrops, friends. Brighter days are sure to follow! Here are some cheery spring posts to brighten even the darkest rainy day.
