Updated Kitchen Cabinets

Guys. I’m so excited to announce…(drumroll, please)…we have kitchen cabinet hardware! In case you’re just now visiting Home Made Modern, it’s been 2 years, ya’ll. Two years of trying to open drawers with no handles. (See our journey here, here, and here.) Last weekend, I finally painted the drawers and doors and installed my shiny new cabinet pulls courtesy of D. Lawless Hardware. Read on for an easy and cheap way to update your kitchen cabinets!

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Awhile back, I used bead board wallpaper by Allen + Roth to cover the inserts of our cabinets. There was nothing structurally wrong with our cupboards. They were just very ’70s. Pretty plain with outdated hardware. Since we were (are) on a budget, we decided to save them and just update them a little. So I wallpapered them, and they stayed just like that for awhile, collecting finger smudges and devoid of hardware.

Finally, I found the time to clean them with Clorox wipes, and paint them with Sherwin Williams paint in Sea Salt. Wow, the color we chose wasn’t much different than the white that was on there already, but it’s not as stark and just looks so much better.

Finally, I installed the jewelry: brushed nickel pulls from D. Lawless Hardware as well as new hinges. (If you haven’t shopped there for cabinet pulls and knobs yet, you should! They have a great selection and the prices are awesome.)

There you have it. An inexpensive, but very effective IMO, way to update your kitchen cabinets. We’re on the home stretch now, I think. Just a couple more things to do in our kitchen!
