Denim Pocket Organizers (Trend Alert)

March 12, 2015 by Valerie Ott 32 Comments

Hi there, lovelies. How are you? Thanks for taking time out of your day to be here. So, have you seen all the denim accessories this spring? I am all about this trend, not only because I love blue (especially shades of indigo), but because jeans are my staple. I’m a jeans and T-shirt girl, for sure. Of course, I had to make something that used denim, but as with most of my projects, I wanted something useful, too. So I came up with the idea to use the pockets on a few old pairs headed to Goodwill as organizers for my office.

Denim Pocket Organizers
Nap Rating = 1 nap (not including dry time for spray paint)

Tools & Materials

  • Embroidery hoops in different sizes
  • Old jeans
  • Sharp scissors
  • Brown spray paint

Guys, this is pretty self-explanatory, so I’m not gonna go crazy with a step-by-step here. Just spray the outer hoops (the ones with screws) brown…or any color you want. I chose brown because it reminded me of a belt. You know…for the jeans. After the outer hoops are dry, place them on your jean pockets to see where to cut them free from the rest of the pants. Just make sure to leave enough excess so they can be stretched tight within the hoops. Place the fabric between the inner and outer hoops and screw the whole thing until everything is nice and tight. Finally, cut away the excess denim.

I’m using these in our home office above a little secretary we have in there. I just love how these turned out. What a cheap and easy way to embrace a trend!

Check out all these denim home accessories, too!

Thanks for your comment, Amanda! Yeah, I need a little function to go along with my trend-embracing. Otherwise it's just a luxury, right?

I'm popping over from 'The Scoop 167' and have to tell you what a cute idea this is. I've pinned it – I can't wait to make these for my twin granddaughters.

You made my day, Cyndi! You know why? Because sometimes I wonder why the heck I blog, and then a sweet person like yourself tells me they've been inspired to make something or bake something for their family, and I remember! I hope your granddaughters like 'em. 🙂

Love them, I love upcycling old jeans and these look great. I especially love that they use the pocket part of the jeans.

Great idea! My only concern with these denim pocket wall organizers is they will loosen after items have been placed in them. Do you use any type of gorilla glue or rubber cement on the rings prior to cutting the excess material away from the rings?

I didn't, Louise, but I suppose you could. I have scissors, pencils, and stamps in them and they've been fine with repeated use, but they're REALLY tight in the hoops because of the thickness of the jean fabric. If the fabric was flimsier, I could see how that would be an issue. Thanks for stopping by!

What a fabulous way to reuse the pockets on pre-loved jeans, Valerie. I have a couple of spare embroidery hoops and lots of old jeans, so this project is now on my To Do list. I’d love you to add this clever idea to our Ongoing Denim Refashioning link party…

I know I’m late to the game, but that seems like an awesome idea! I live in a tiny house with Mr Makeables and two tiny people, so extra storage (and strategically high scissor locations) will always be something I appreciate!
    Thanks for the ideas!

      Hi Melissa,

Good question! There’s a little gap created by the hardware used to screw and tighten the rings together. I used this to hang them from picture nails.
