Hi there, thanks for visiting Home Made Modern! I’ve got two simple centerpiece ideas for you to use this Thanksgiving. These last-minute ideas for decorating your table are simple and inexpensive, and perfect for a fall table. First, learn how to make a woven burlap table runner by checking out my simple tutorial over on About.com. Here are some closeups of that project:
If you’re not the DIY-type, that’s OK! Companies like Shutterfly make customized table runners with loads of personal touches, such as monograms and even ones printed with your own pictures. (These runners would make amazing hostess gifts, by the way!)
Whether you craft your own runner, or personalize one online, the next part is even simpler. Simply fill a woven basket with real or artificial pumpkins and gourds. Then, nestle in some framed photos of your family. I chose black and white ones in mixed metal picture frames because they lend some nostalgia as well as some glitter to the table, which is perfect for Thanksgiving. (Hint: If the propped picture frames are making your basket tippy, try hiding something heavy in the bottom.) Finally, weave a garland made from artificial leaves in and around all of the items for a lusher look. Voila! Your table is ready for the turkey!
Now, use the pictures you used in your lovely centerpiece to connect guests young and old around the Thanksgiving table. Invite guests to try to guess who the folks are in the old photos (this is particularly fun for kids) and then share stories about the people and moments pictured. Use your creation to jumpstart great conversation and evoke memories for everyone present.
