Hey guys! You may remember from Monday’s post that I mentioned having a really great weekend last weekend and that we hit a flea market. My little town of Hudson, Ohio, hosts an upscale flea market on the last Saturday of the month, and this was the first time I’ve been. Now, I know that it’s a long shot that most of you would be able to attend this flea market because you’re scattered all over the country. But I have several purposes for this post.
First, of course, I want to give a shout-out to some of the great vendors I was able to meet there. I just loved chatting with these like-minded souls. Although perfect strangers, we just “get” each other, you know? We get excited about metal trays, stools that squeak the right way, and ’70s handicrafts that remind us of our moms. We have day jobs, but weekend passions. We know how to spot “the” hot thing in a pile of other people’s junk, and we understand that it’s not weird when your heart actually quickens at the sight of that item you’ve been looking for forever. So–like I said–many of you won’t be able to make it to the flea market, but a lot of these folks have Etsy shops and online storefronts, so I’m including ’em here:
Owl Lamp–Black Kitten Vintage
Screened Tea Towels–Tart
Blue Industrial Coffee Table–American Eagle Antiques and Restoration (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Vintage Globe and License Plates–Sassyfrass
Owl Planter on Blue Ladder and Collection of Metal Trays–Life Is Sweet
Blue Painted Chair–Sis Style
Eclectic CLE (I’ll show you what I got from them below…eeek!)
There. Now go check these guys out and buy something! So this brings me to my second purpose for writing this post. Do you ever find yourself in a creative slump? Oh, I do. I needed a jolt this past weekend. My husband was dead-dog tired from the week (plus he never sleeps well), so I told him to take a nap, which left me with the girls on a gorgeous Saturday morning. What could we do? Sigh.
Then I remembered the flea market that was happening, so while I didn’t have a lot of money to spend, I decided we’d at least spend a lovely morning riding down on our bikes, perusing the stuff, and maybe grabbing a treat from a food truck.
When we got there, though, oh boy, I could tell right away it was a good one. The prices were right, the weather was PERFECT, and everyone was just so darn nice. I needed to be around all of these creative people for a little while, and what I began to realize was that blogging is SO solitary sometimes, that it’s really important for me to seek out stuff like this for a little camaraderie and inspiration more often. I came away exhilarated by my finds, in love with the day and what I do, and ready to fill this little blog of mine with more creative stuff. I was so over the moon, guys, that I’m embarrassed to say I even took a pic of the pears I had for lunch. My PEARS, people.
I’m kinda laughing at that now, but it’s just further evidence that I was actually feeling a creative high that day. (Did you see Modern Family last week? Phil’s plums? Yeah, kinda like that.)
And last but not least, my third purpose for this post: to brag about my finds!
This truck…which I filled with pumpkins.
And last but definitely not least…this stool, which I got from the girls at Eclectic CLE. I. Am. So. In Love With It. I’ve been wanting one like this forever and yes, my heart started beating harder when I saw it. Thanks, Abby and Emily!
So go. Get yourself out to a flea market and just see what weird things you take pictures of afterwards.
