Hi guys! So for someone who has loved chalkboards for as long as I have, it sure took me long enough to make one of my own. Now, in the span of two weeks, I have two! (Check out my wood slice chalkboard art from last week.) My husband finished up a quick project for our kitchen over the weekend…it feels so nice to tackle a project for once that doesn’t take three months to finish. I needed some gratification in this room! As you know, we’ve been working on it forever. Here’s what our pantry door looked like before:

The louvers felt very ’70s to us and as you can see, the door did nothing for the space. So, my handy husband knocked out all of the slats, and removed the stops with a sawzall. Then, he installed drywall that I had spray painted with chalkboard paint, put on new molding to finish off the front edge, and caulked and painted it all white.
Here’s the before and after:

Much improved, don’t you think? The girls can draw on the bottom half and I can use the top for reminders and grocery lists. Oh, by the way, if you want a tutorial on how to create perfect chalk art, check out my About.com article.

Check that project off the list!

Looks amazing! What a wonderful idea!
Thanks Autumn! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Lisa!! 🙂

Thank you so much, Meaghan!!
this looks great! I have wanted to do the same thing in my kitchen with our 80's style bifold doors.
Thanks Audra! You totally should!
I love this! Sharing on Twitter. Thanks for linking it up at Monday Funday!
Very nice. I've been kicking around with the idea of making my pantry doors chalkboards – either inside or out, not sure. But yours turned out so well that I'm for sure doing it! Mine are the narrow doors, two not one, but the same type as yours. I'm glad to be able to see how it would look before I do mine. Thanks!
Thanks for coming by and leaving such a nice comment, Val. Good name, by the way. 🙂 Good luck with your pantry!
Thank you, thank you, Katie!!
Love this idea!! I just might do this! Thanks Val!!
Yay! Glad you felt inspired, April! Let me know how it turns out.
How did he install drywall in the door?
Hi Amber! It’s held in with molding.
