…white! I’ve been struggling with our family room forEVER, and I think it’s because it just wasn’t light and bright enough for me. There were too many wood tones, and the monstrous brown-slipcovered couch is like a black hole sucking all of the energy out of the room. I’d love to change the couch, but it’s probably dead LAST on our list-as-long-as-my-arm of projects. So it stays. Adding some springy pillows helped, but I’m telling you, that room was still a head-scratcher for me.

Now, I had always planned to paint this little table, but I kinda thought I’d do something fun with it, like paint it turquoise or silver-leaf the top. In the end, all I did was paint it white and cover the top with a linen-y fabric, and all of a sudden…that room had more life! Amazing how such a small change made me “see the light.” (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
First, I lightly sanded the table and wiped it down. Then I primed it, and covered it with 2 coats of latex. After it dried completely, I used a linen-y fabric in the color of burlap to cover the top. I employed the same technique I used for my bar stool table.

By the way, I made that tiny pot of faux succulents in about 60 seconds flat. I had the pot and those random stems in the bottom of our hutch (along with various and sundry other items). Then one day, they were serendipitously lying next to each other, and I thought, “Those look nice together.” Boom. More life for our room. (Oh geez, I’m on a tear today.)
So…now that I’ve seen how much I need a little white in every room, I’ll give you three guesses as to what you think I’m going to paint next.

I know I know!!!!! The fireplace!
I have the same problem, too many wood pieces. I love wood but too much can be a little dull. I really like what you've done with the table, it really does brighten up the room. X
Your table looks great. I have one very similar and you inspire me to re do mine. Saw your post over @ Motivate me Monday. Visit me sometime @ http://www.crosson5.blogspot.com
Wow, I love a nice update for minimal time and effort! Looks great. Thanks for linking this up to Monday Funday!
I've been toying with doing the same to my pedestal table. Love how yours turned out … and thanks for the inspiration!
🙂 Linda
P.S. I'm guessing the fireplace too!
Great job! I know your thinking Fireplace – but that basket coffee table could go white, too! I'm a huge fan of white.
I'm visiting you today from Flamingo Toes. I hope you get a chance to stop by my blog and leave a comment and Link Up, too!
