Hey there! Well, I had hoped to have this posted yesterday, but such is life. We’re preparing to leave today for a trip to NYC, so I’ve been getting laundry done, finding someone to feed the fish and water the tree while we’re gone, baking cookies for Liv’s kindergarten class because we’re in charge of the class snack this week, etc…you all know this routine, right?
Anyway, there isn’t much in the way of a tutorial for our mantel…but I can tell you about all of the elements.
The old window has been up there for awhile now, and I’ve found lots of ways to decorate with it, such as our summer mantel and fall mantel. I got it for $17 at a junk shop, and didn’t think it’d be up there for long but it’s still around. This time, I just printed out some lyric art that I created on Microsoft Publisher. Pretty rudimentary in terms of graphic art, but it’ll work for something that’s only gonna be up for 3 weeks or so. I’m going to live with this for awhile, and if I really like it, I’ll probably make something more professionally-printed next year.
The tree jars and snow luminaries are new for us this year. They really add some sparkle. The tinsel trees are from Pat Catan’s (an Akron chain).
I made the stockings for the girls years ago, before I started blogging. The stocking holders are from Pier One (again, from years ago). They were originally oil-rubbed bronze but I sprayed them with metallic paint this year. They just needed a little update. I’d actually like to replace them, but this may give them a little more “shelf” life. (Get it?)
Lastly, I tacked a few nails into the mantel in an obscure spot so I could hang some poinsettia garland.
That’s it! Can’t wait to see all the other mantels out there…I’m sure they are a feast for the eyes.
