Are we on Halloween overload yet? I’m getting there. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing all of the creative projects, mantels, and costume ideas–especially around the first of September, I start to get really excited for Halloween–but right about now, I’m almost sick of it. Nevertheless, what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t share with you our decorated entryway?
I love to decorate for fall, but find it hard to decorate for Halloween because I’m not a HUGE orange fan. But since white pumpkins are all the rage these days, I find it easier. I also LOVE birds and owls, so I decided to go with a slightly spooky, but not too kitcshy, “Nevermore” raven theme.
Here’s our entry…
The milk glass vase is one I already had, but I did buy some orange branches 50% off from Jo-Anns, because they balance out my ceramic pumpkin on the other side. I took the dust jackets off some black books and turned them backwards to give some height; added a couple of candlesticks with white pumpkins for $4 from Target; and hung last year’s lantern in place of my usual birdcage.
Here’s a close-up of my favorite part: my DIY raven art. I reused the frame from my ikat bicycle art, and just printed the raven onto cream cardstock, mounted it on some scrapbooking paper I already had, and voila. I actually really love the way he turned out, especially for zero dollars.
So there you go. Easy-peasy, hardly any money spent, and hopefully an understated Halloween effect was achieved. I’ve got one more Halloween project to share with you Thursday if all goes well…and then I’m on to thinking about Thanksgiving. Phew!
