I’ve had a Eureka! moment while looking at this month’s (May 2011) Better Homes and Gardens: creating time capsules that are display-worthy! The magazine featured an idea for making a time capsule out of a clear glass jar for Mother’s Day, but I think it’d be great to make multiples of them: one for each year or two of your family’s life.
For example, instead of these bird prints, put your favorite family photo of the year in the jar and fill it with mementos, kids’ artwork, ticket stubs, collected items like acorns, rocks, or sea glass…you get the idea. Displaying a row of these on a mantel or a group of different-sized ones on a side table would be a great conversation piece and a tangible way to remember the special moments you’ve shared.
