Love this idea I found in Better Homes and Gardens (Sept 2010) because it’s something that my 3-year-old can help me with: buy an inexpensive, flat wooden picture frame from a craft store, stain it, and hot glue acorn caps onto it. (This picture shows a similar idea from the blog Hearts and Trees using a mirror: also cool.)
We started challenging ourselves with Summit County MetroPark’s Fall Hike Spree last year and we loved it so much, we’ve decided to make it a yearly tradition. I thought we could collect the acorn caps for our frame throughout our hikes this year, then frame an annual portrait of all of us on one of the trails. I think it will be a good way to commemorate our yearly achievement. I so love that we’ll be able to tell Maris one day that she started taking part in the tradition when she was only 4 months old.
