So here I am, blogging. Those of you who know me well might be a bit surprised at this development. I’m not exactly a technophile, though I do know quite a bit about Internet tools and such because of my former job as a librarian. But I couldn’t be less interested in iPhones, texting, and the like, so this is kinda funny, even to me.
I have ideas about being a SAHM, however, that I want to turn into a book/career, so I thought this would be a good place to start sharing those ideas and maybe, one day, the Home Made Modern movement will catch Oprah’s attention! Fame and fortune aside, I just believe that this is what I’m meant to be doing. By “this,” I mean: being a good mom to Olivia (my beloved 16-month-old daughter) while living a creative life.
The tasks associated with being a SAHM are routine by nature, but I try to inject style and personality into meals, decorating, entertaining, and gift-giving in order to make the everyday things special for me and my family, and–maybe most importantly–to retain a sense of myself. Let’s face it: SAHMs are not often seen as glamorous or trend-setting. Taking care of a baby can be exhausting, isolating, and a big drain on time and energy. But I think it’s completely possible to express ourselves through the very tasks inherent to the job, all within the confines of nap times, feeding schedules and budget constraints.
So here we go…
