Hey there, friends! So do you have a brown sofa? And by brown, I mean browwwwnn. Not taupe, or tan, which both don’t stick out quite so much, but deep, dark chocolate brown? Well, we do. And it’s not anything I would ordinarily pick, but due to budget restraints, we’ve had to make do with our worn-out couch from our former house, which I covered with a slipcover because it was so bad. So now it’s brown. I was hoping it would pass for a leather-look, but I’m not sure I pulled that off. Anyway, I recently wrote an article with Joss & Main, which details 8 ways to add style to brown couch, and I was inspired by the clever ideas we came up with!
I’ve learned to live with our brown monstrosity. Accent pillows and a gallery wall above the couch really help distract from its brown-ness. See?
I think using these two techniques have been pretty effective in our family room, but I’m going to try some of these other eight ways to add style to a brown couch soon! Right after I paint the walls…
Here are some other pretty ways to accessorize a brown sofa:
I love how these bright colors and a large throw break up the brown sofa, yet the dark color of the couch acts as a grounding force in the room.
The industrial look goes perfectly with a brown couch and neutral pillows. The light walls help keep everything from looking too dark.
You can even achieve a classy, coastal feel with a brown sofa by adding blue and white. This white ottoman-slash-coffee table really brightens up the room, too.
I adore brown with yellow. The warm tones of this room, the pops of yellow and gold, and the light-colored coffee table and flokati rug make this brown sofa work.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not only contemplating keeping our brown sofa for awhile longer, but I may just buy another one after this one completely wears out! I no longer feel trapped by it after seeing all these awesome ways to style a brown couch.
I hope you were inspired, too! Until next time…
