Hey there! So if you’ve been following me on this little labor of love of mine, you know we’ve been working on our kitchen. For awhile. (A little over 2 years, but who’s counting?) You may have seen glimpses of our progress, but the last time I really posted about it, I showed you some of our major steps towards completing our kitchen reno. While I’m not ready to reveal the whole thing yet, I will say we’ve made a few more steps. Our tile is installed, our open shelving is almost done, we’ve installed the base trim, and here…
…we added some pendant lighting over the peninsula. These are the Harper Instant Pendant Lights, which are super-easy to install.
I also hung up some EAT letters. I know a ton of folks have similar letters in their kitchens, but this project was just meant for our family. See, our girls eat at a glacial pace. I’m talking SLOW, people. The hubs and I are constantly saying, “Eat!” during mealtimes, so I just had to jump on the bandwagon with this craft, somehow hoping that this silent urging will help. (It won’t.) Anyway, here they are:
I sprayed paper mache letters from the craft store with a couple of coats of looking glass spray paint. This paint really gives the look of galvanized metal because it has a mottled look. In my case, the can was almost empty and that worked even better because the occasional bursts of air mottled the paint even more. Worked like a charm. They really look like metal, but for a fraction of the cost.
Finally, just a simple thing, but I love it…this wire basket now houses our cookbooks on top of the fridge. It keeps them tidy, and I can see what I’m reaching for.
So next up is finishing the shelving and painting the cabinets. Maybe we’ll be done by 2015??
