Hey there! Hope your week is getting off to a great start. We’ve been enjoying some spring weather, finally. Pretty soon our daffodils will be up. Better late than never! So anyway…I’ve been crushing on campaign furniture lately, but I’ve always been curious as to why it was called that. I Googled it, and found out that this type of furniture was made for traveling, specifically as part of a ranked officer’s belongings while he was serving abroad on a military campaign. The tell-tale brass brackets were meant to reinforce corners, and to keep them from getting knicked while being moved. The authentic pieces of this type of furniture are actually hinged–often in obscure places–so that they could be folded. Cool, huh?
I had the perfect piece of furniture to make into a campaign-style piece. My tray table folds up already! All it needed was some brass accents. I actually redid this tray table a long time ago and liked it a lot then…

…but, I thought I could take it up another notch with this simple addition.

After painting the tray white so it would match its fold-able legs, I simply spray-painted some small plates I found in the hardware aisle of our local Ace Hardware, then attached them with hot glue.

I really loved this project…can totally see doing it on cheap Sauder-type bookcases and such, too, for an easy but classy furniture facelift. Until next time…

Looks great Val!
What a creative idea! I love it. 🙂
Thank you SO much! Hope you're having a great weekend!
Thanks, Vel! Did you get a haircut? I love it! Wish my hair would do that.
This is my kind of table… pretty, sleek and easy to lift. Well done.

Looove this!!
Thanks, Brooke! That makes me smile. 🙂
Very nice job making a table into another personality. It looks fantastic. I have a table similar, had an actual wicker tray but it was so big it looked funny and wasn't very stable. So we spray painted the faux bamboo legs white, made a flat top (looks like upside down tray) with some pallet pieces. Need to repaint it again as we've used it to sand and paint other projects. Now that I've seen yours I want it to look snazzy like yours. Happy Easter
this looks great, I love the addition of the gold on the corners
Thanks, Emily! Hope you have a great week!
