Hello there! Remember how I told you our two rooms were decorated in vastly different ways for Christmas? Our family room is where we read, enjoy the fireplace and take naps, so I went with a white and gold Christmas theme in there. But our living room is where we, well, live. It just had to be cheerful. In years past I have struggled with how to decorate for Christmas in our blue and green room. I know…there are gorgeous trees decorated in blues, greens, and silver or gold, but I could never pull this off for some reason. This year, I threw my arms around red and welcomed it back to our Christmas tree. I don’t know, our tree never looks like it should belong on a magazine cover, but we like it more and more every year.
I didn’t stop with the red, there, however. Here’s how the DIY picture shelf above our couch looked in years past…
And here’s what it looks like this year:
There’s no real science to this or “how-to.” I just wrapped the largest picture in wrapping paper and put a bow around it (just like you would with a real gift). Then I used scrapbook paper to jazz up a few of the pictures, like this one:
I stuck with conical-shaped trees just to keep the look consistent. I also used a printable available at Today’s Creative Blog, which you can see better in this pic:
So there you have it. One room that’s white, gold, and peaceful…and another that’s bright and festive.
